« Part 1: The aquisition Part 2 of My hand plane journey series Part 3: Repairs »

The next step on my hand plane journey is to disassemble all the parts and clean everything up. I separated all of the ferrous metal parts and put them in a bath of Evapo-rust:

I also sanded off the finish on the knob and tote. The tote has a chip off of the top. I was going to ignore that but it does make the tote uncomfortable to handle. Here is a picture of all of the pieces after the initial clean up:

The Evapo-rust did a great job on removing the rust of all of the iron parts. Next up repairs.

It looks like the tote is rosewood. The Knob looks like a lighter wood. Do you know what wood the knob is made from?

I have absolutely no idea. It was covered in a heavy dark red stain.

Have your say...
