8 hole adhesive sanding discs - 9 replies

I wasn’t sure where to post this question so please bear with me. Does anyone know a good source for 5” 8 hole adhesive sanding discs? Locally I can only find hook & loop 8 hole or adhesive without holes. Maybe they are phasing out the adhesive with holes? I found a few places online but the selection is limited. Any help is appr...

Frog Lube - 0 replies

I just heard about this product. http://shop.velcronius.com/main.sc It is a eco- friendly firearm CLP. I was wondering how it would work on a steel tool table / tools. Does anyone have experience with it or possibly an opinion of if it would be useful? It is plant based & all natural. So no silicone. I see where people use it on knife blades...

Help finding a hooking lumber rack system - 2 replies

I would like to build a light duty overhead lumber rack. My idea is to hang it from the rafters with a hook system that will hook over the rafter then connect to a 2X6 built rack. The idea is to be moveable & adjustable. I hope I am being clear enough. My problem is finding a metal hook that will fit over a rafter board & bolt onto the r...

In my area MDF 3/4”X4’X8’ is roughly $32 a sheet. Seems expensive to me. Is that the norm around the country or am I just being cheap?

Nothing Controversial Here - 14 replies

I have been having some licensing issues with the USCG for the past several months (I am a licensed Merchant Mariner). It has taken up much of my free time (virtually no shop time since February or so) & seems to be finally settled. But it got me thinking surely the rest of the world doesn’t have these types of problems just to hold a ...

Corner Bookcase Help - 2 replies

I am planning a corner bookcase for the wife. She found a design she likes but I’ve run into a snag in the design stage : ) There are 3 separate cases: 1 corner unit, 2 side units & also 2 end pieces. My question is should the cases be touching the corner unit flat on the sides so that they can be secured together? Or should they have ...

Form Fitting - 2 replies

I am wondering what LJ’s are using to form fit an object into a box. IE: tools, pistols, knives. forks etc. I would like a tight fitting foam type material that is still soft & flexible like foam. I thought about high density foam but am unsure how to get a perfect fit.

Rattle Can Spray Paint - 5 replies

I am wondering what kind of rattle can spray paint LJ’s are using. I built a piano bench from poplar & used 3 coats of Rustoleum spray primer (dried thoroughly) & finished spraying with Rustoleum indoor/outdoor gloss black paint. The primer held up fine but the black paint is flaking off to the primer. I don’t know how many ...

Miter Angles - 6 replies

I understand the formula for figuring out a miter angle (360/sides/2). Maybe I’m lazy but isn’t it easier & less complicated to just divide 180 by the number of sides? I get the same answer when I try both ways. Is there something I’m missing? Are there situations where this just won’t work?

New Table Saw - 3 replies

After much debating with myself ( and with help from the good people of Lumberjocks) over portable & compact vs power & stability, I decided to go with the Ridgid 4512. I picked it up today from HD. My good nephew came over & helped me bring it home & we put it together. The instructions included could use a rewrite but in about ...

Bosch 4100-09 owners please reply - 19 replies

I am still looking to upgrade my ratty Craftsman cheapo TS. I have narrowed my choices down to the Rigid 4510 & the Bosch 4100-09. I am leaning toward the Bosch. What worries me is lately ( within the last month or so) I have seen 3 Bosch 4100-09 on Craiglist. All 3 said the same thing- “new motor”. I am wondering if the motor...

Carving on a Picture Frame - 1 reply

I am about to build a picture frame out of Purpleheart. I want to add a relief carving that will run across the top & down each side to about the half way mark. I am thinking that mitered corners will weaken due to the carving. Can someone suggest a different joint that would stand up to a carving like this? Maybe a half lap joint? I’m...
