Hey all,

This was a pretty good weekend for me. I went to Woodcraft and bought my very first lathe. It is a Jet Mini lathe with variable speed control, and cost less than $300 because of a sale going on. I’m going to start turning pens, maybe some small bowls, pepper mills, bottle stoppers, etc. As I finish a project I’ll post a bunch of pictures on this site.

I haven’t had a chance to put it together yet because the inlaws were in town, but perhaps tomorrow evening. I’ll put up some pictures of the lathe when I get a chance.

Hi Dave,

I can feel your adrenaline rush. To be honest with you I don’t know if I would have been strong enough to resist the temptation to let my wife entertain HER parents while I put together MY new tool. But you did well to resist the temptation (of course you could have waited until they went to bed). Anyway I hope you get it assembled soon. I am looking forward to seeing pictures of it as well as a review of it.

And how about some projects too. Is that enough to keep you busy for awhile?

That’s a great little lathe. I have an older belted version.

Why don’t you do a review?

Approach this new tool with extreme caution. It can be EXTREMELY addictive. The next time your in laws visit, you won’t even know they are there. You will just be a turning.

Wait a minute… Use caution because I might not know my inlaws are there? Now I definitely can’t wait to get it set up.

That’s just what I like to see.

Another Happy turner!
