today while spinning the dice i came across many pictures of projects with pictures of your children in them ... this is disturbing to me !! if your 5- 6 year old posted there picture on the internet u would ground them!! and hopefully educate them on the dangers of doing so … we had a member that got attacked when to much information was posted!!!! i urge you to remove children pictures in posts and in future don’t do it ... i have 4 children and i know it is tempting they are “cute” but please don’t do it … sincerely dennis

Hi Dennis,
You have a point. But I think that this goes even farther than children’s pictures. We put a lot of personal info here. I, for instance, have posted nearly everything but my social on this site. It is easy to do so given the nature of the folks on board but you are right in that we do not know who else is looking at the postings.
I don’t have a good answer to your concerns. I wish I did. But your concerns are appreciated and are grounded in reality. It is easy to get complacent about this issue and post pictures of our families on site in a fashion similar to displaying pictures on our mantels at home because we want to share.
Thanks for your concerns.

hi scott, yes we post pictures of projects we are proud of … like wise i think every one here are proud of our kids and grandkids ... with all the story’s in recent news of abductors, rapist, murders even so bold as to go in houses and take them i think we get to complacent with the safety issues of our loved ones … we are a trusting society so this is a normal mistake i think . i just wanted to bring it to light 1 more time to remind lumberjocks to be aware and be careful ! i appreciate everyone reading ! sincerely dennis

I think it depends on how much personal info you already have on the site. If you haven’t given any personal contact info apart from City, State and your email address, I don’t really see the harm in it. We don’t put blankets over our kids heads when we go out to the store (well, Michael Jackson does), and there we’re giving people our license plate numbers (and they could follow us home as well). Of course, I’m overseas so there’s less danger of that crazy homicidal LumberJock coming after me or my kids. ;^)

it’s a good reminder, also, to not flag your exact location on the map if you want to play it safe.

For a little perspective check out these stats Only 5% of all incidents were attributable to someone unknown to the child, which is obviously of little comfort to those 5% but it does bear mentioning.

it’s always wise to be aware and to be cautious. Then, you can make choices based on your beliefs.
