idea's for cutting a groove in a Formica top - 7 replies
I built a formica desk eons ago. It was my desk in my office for years, then became a bench in a small shop. I’ve now moved it as an outfeed table for my table saw. The smooth formica works well for this application. I’d like to cut the 3/4” grooves for the miter gauge. I know I built the top with 2 layers of board glued and s...

Question about rasp - 2 replies
I am looking at buying this set of rasp I was thinking of the fine and course set. Do I need the mediums as well? How are they? Comments? I will be using them for typical shaping for smaller type projects like tool plane/saw/chisel handle replacements maybe some making the occasional plane and that sort of projects.

Plating - 4 replies
Not sure this is really the right forum, but i guess its finishing of sorts. Does anyone have any experience chrome (or similar) plating? Is it something do-able in the home shop? I’ve done a little research online and it didn’t bring up to much.

Shipping - How do you handle it - 24 replies
I’ve been selling stuff on ebay for quite a while, but I’ve always found the shipping to be a hassle. I don’t mean I produce products specifically to sell, but just things I no longer want or need. I dislike the whole process so much I tend to hold on to things just so I don’t have to go through the shipping process. Once...

Future projects (weekend finds) - 24 replies
Well, first flea market was a bust. I did find a $600 stanley #1 which I passed on. It was in good shape, but I just wasn’t quit ready to drop $600 on something I just wouldn’t use. But what did I find, look on the bench: I find a girlfriend who threw her boyfriend out and decided to go sell his stuff at the flea market. (g...

little "nice to haves" - 5 replies
First let me say I think the site is great, but here are two thing I constantly try to do and haven’t found a way. First, a show all button to see all responses to make searching easier (searching a particular thread, not the site). Second and kind of related, being able to sort the responses by members. I’ve often gone to find...

Stanley #4 for sale - 0 replies
I have a maroon Stanley Bailey #4 tuned up and ready to go. I thought I’d post it here before ebay. Sole has been flatten.frog has been flatten. When I got it the blade had a micro bevel. I did not remove it, but I will if desired. I personally don’t like using a micro bevel but that’s a personal choic...

As much as I hate to do it, I’ve decided to parts out my old Craftsman tablesaw. (113.29960) I’ve upgraded to a grizzley. This has been on ebay and craiglist with no offers and I can use some of the parts myself. This saw has served me well for the last couple of years, but I got a really good deal on a cabinet saw, I’ve also g...

Bandsaw question - 8 replies
I finally got my band saw restored and tuned where i can re-saw with it. The 1/2” 3 tpi hook blade works great for turning a chunk of firewood into usable plane blanks and ripping a 1×6 into 1/2×6. The problem now, I always used the band saw for cutting curves and the like. It just doesn’t work with the 1/2” blade. So...

Milbro plane information - 14 replies
I purchased this plane on ebay. I bought it because it was advertised as an aluminum plane, and I love my Stanley A5. Someday I’ll buy an A4, but they are a bit pricey. Other than materials and the cap, its almost identical to a Stanley. The frog is like a Stanley and is metal. The base seems to be some kind of aluminum, it looks like alum...

Stanley 5 1/4 - 2 replies
I finished the restoration on the second of my Stanley 5 1/4. So the sole has been flattened, the frog flattened, blade sharped (25 degree hollow ground on an 8” wheel, 8000 grit oil stone, and stropped), I believe its original japanning, aluminum handle, BLO refinish on rosewood front knob, and it work nice. I need to s...

I plan to make a bow saw and will make the first blade from a piece of broken bandsaw blade I have. I would like the blade to be the correct size in case I want to buy a replacement. Can someone tell me the measurement center to center on the holes of a purchased bow saw blade? The saws on toolsforwoodworking are 12”. Is 12” the m...

Plans or No Plans - 37 replies
I was wondering what the thoughts are about building from plans or from inspiration. I typically don’t have plans for most of my woodworking projects. I can work from plans, and will if I have them, but even then I typically deviate at some point. Sometimes I draw my own, if it’s a fairly intricate project, but usually it’s all in my he...

New arrivals (ok, maybe a little tool gloat) - 33 replies
A friend of mine had a lathe I was thinking of buying. He said he also had a bunch of woodworking stuff from his father and his wife was bugging him to get it out of the barn because they are thinking of selling the house. He wanted it to go to someone who would use it. I was/am overwhelmed. It took 2 truckloads to get it home. It includes the g...

Information on a Sargent 4306 knuckle block - 10 replies
This Sargent 4306 Knuckle Joint Block Plane is in a local antique shop. The only information I can find is on sargent-planes.com. It list it and between the 2 types it could be worth between $40 and $400 dollars. Anybody have any ideas what it may be worth with the original box. I have no idea how to tell what type a Sargent plane is.

Saws, using collecting, cleaning and buying - 5180 replies
Following some of the plane and other tool threads has been pretty interesting and informational for me. My thought, why not a saw dump. I’m starting to gain some interest after picking up this Disston 70. Today I found a chest full of tools with two interesting saws. A E M Boynton, which I haven’t discovered a whole lot on yet an...
