Milbro plane information - 14 replies I purchased this plane on ebay. I bought it because it was advertised as an aluminum plane, and I love my Stanley A5. Someday I’ll buy an A4, but they are a bit pricey. Other than materials and the cap, its almost identical to a Stanley. The frog is like a Stanley and is metal. The base seems to be some kind of aluminum, it looks like alum... |

Stanley 5 1/4 - 2 replies I finished the restoration on the second of my Stanley 5 1/4. So the sole has been flattened, the frog flattened, blade sharped (25 degree hollow ground on an 8” wheel, 8000 grit oil stone, and stropped), I believe its original japanning, aluminum handle, BLO refinish on rosewood front knob, and it work nice. I need to s... |

Plans or No Plans - 38 replies I was wondering what the thoughts are about building from plans or from inspiration. I typically don’t have plans for most of my woodworking projects. I can work from plans, and will if I have them, but even then I typically deviate at some point. Sometimes I draw my own, if it’s a fairly intricate project, but usually it’s all in my he... |

New arrivals (ok, maybe a little tool gloat) - 33 replies A friend of mine had a lathe I was thinking of buying. He said he also had a bunch of woodworking stuff from his father and his wife was bugging him to get it out of the barn because they are thinking of selling the house. He wanted it to go to someone who would use it. I was/am overwhelmed. It took 2 truckloads to get it home. It includes the g... |

Information on a Sargent 4306 knuckle block - 10 replies This Sargent 4306 Knuckle Joint Block Plane is in a local antique shop. The only information I can find is on sargent-planes.com. It list it and between the 2 types it could be worth between $40 and $400 dollars. Anybody have any ideas what it may be worth with the original box. I have no idea how to tell what type a Sargent plane is. |

Saws, using collecting, cleaning and buying - 3615 replies Following some of the plane and other tool threads has been pretty interesting and informational for me. My thought, why not a saw dump. I’m starting to gain some interest after picking up this Disston 70. Today I found a chest full of tools with two interesting saws. A E M Boynton, which I haven’t discovered a whole lot on yet an... |

Grizzly 2 hp dust collector - 4 replies I picked up a new 5 hp dust collector today so I won’t need the 2 hp grizzly. I’m willing to sell or trade. It’s about 30 miles north east of Albany NY. PM me if interested. I’ll post some pictures tomorrow. I didn’t plan to buy a new one, I just wanted the piping, but wound up to be cheaper to buy it all. |

What's your favorite recommissioned piece of equipment - 21 replies One of the things i like about this site is the sharing of idea’s. I’m not a professional woodworker, so in my line of work, this is called Intellectual Property. The company I work for goes to great length to protect its “IP”. Here, we give away our “IP” to help the cause. (not sure what the cause is, but its... |

What scraper? - 4 replies I know my quest for planes will never be complete, but i’m thinking my next dedicated quest will be for a scraper. I’d like to hear what you use, like and dislike so I can start with a reasonable purchase. The expectation would to help eliminate most or all of the sanding on cabinets, tabletops etc. |

Disston 70?? - 3 replies I hit a few flee markets today and I’ve been looking for a dovetail saw. On the way I stopped at a barn sale. Besides a box of misc plane irons for $5, I picked up this sweet little gem for $8. With my internet research it looks like a Disston 70. Can anybody confirm and tell me what it may be worth? I plane to sharpen it, clean it up a bi... |
