Lumberjocks and website links - 6 replies It’s wierd! I’ve been attempting to improve the rating of a website http://www.thetypewriterman.co.uk that I’ve set up for a friend who is trying to recreate his old career after suffering from being made redundant several times. During the course of comparing results for other websites I manage (unpaid) for other groups,... |

Scratch Awl - 10 replies When watching Matthias Wandel’s excellent videos, I often see him using what looks like a scratch awl to punch location marks with a hammer or mallet. This looks a much better technique than the way I do this using a metal-working centre punch – which is shorter and has ‘blunter’ point, so is more difficult to place ac... |

Strange Advertisements - 4 replies Wow, TWO topics in the same forum in one day! Again this is really just an observation since I don’t have a problem with the advertisements that appear above or beside the info’ on LJs, but one today caught my eye. It was for Anti Ligature Hardware – at http://www.relcross.co.uk/cats.asp?cat=143&gclid=COn7oqKZwa4CFUE... |

Table layout in Videos list - LJTV - 0 replies Not a complaint, just an observation that, in case it is not intentional – on my system at least – the two columns of the table of available videos are no longer equal in width ?? |

if I could only figure out how to copy/paste from an eBay posting… - 0 replies As I am on Poopiekat’s block list I can’t reply directly, but would have suggested this: Using Shift/Prt Scr when viewing a page on Ebay with the picture of object of desire puts the whole web page into the Clipboard. I then start up the very useful – FREE – Irfanview ( from http://www.irfanview.com/ ) and Edit/Pas... |

Project Postings - Growth and Coincidences - 30 replies When I joined LJs about 18 months ago, I was able to look at the set of new Projects that appeared each day, and perhaps respond to a few. Nowadays, the number appearing is so huge that I find it hard to keep up. This is not a complaint, just a comment on the increase in activity and membership. One aspect that often surprises me is the ... |

Melamine painting - 2 replies As Poopiekat has me blocked, I’ve started this new topic to provide a possible answer to his question about applying paint over melamine. I used a product called E.S.P. – Easy Surface Preparation – made by OWATROL, to prepare all the cabinets in my kitchen for painting over a varnish or similar finish. They came up pretty... |

Bulk deletion of 'watched' item comments. - 8 replies Hi, I have the system set to send me e-mails of comments on items I am watching, and I read them in my e-mail system. I also see the same messages grouped in my ‘New Posts’ area at the bottom of each page. Is there any way to mark all/some of these items as ‘read’ without accessing each item in turn ? Possibly... |

'Franklin' Library step chair - 5 replies I searched for this on LJ and found several examples, but they were not quite what I was looking to make. The version at fk Plans: http://www.fkplans.com/Downloadable-Library-Step-Stool-Chair-Plan-P95C11.aspx looks like this:which is more like what I had in mind. However – the only applicable version with a review I could find was on... |

Project Viewing and Sketchup - 1 reply I know this is going to sound silly, but after using Google Sketchup for some time, I get frustrated when looking at Projects. There is no ‘orbit’ tool! I keep wanting to look at the other sides of items in the pictures.I realise its not possible, but I find myself clicking on the mouse wheel and expecting to change the view.Perh... |

Blocking Query - 41 replies This may have been asked before but is there any way to contact someone who has blocked me to enquire the reason? I would hate to think that I had inadvertently offended someone without realising it, as I would never wish to do so. |

Fault on leg corner - 1 reply In this (very poor quality – sorry) picture of the leg of a drawer cabinet, you may just be able to see a flaw in the edge where it is trying to break away. To match other items, I could use only a 1/8 th inch roundover bit on the area. My question is, did I use the wrong ‘cut’ of timber for the leg, or is this somet... |

Poly on Danish Oil - 4 replies I see many references to ‘poly’ as a finish for projects. Does this mean polyurethane varnish ? If so, I am surprised that it is mentioned as being used AFTER Danish Oil – I would not have expected it to ‘take’ on an ‘oily’ surface. Or have I got it completely wrong? |
