dowel jig or biscuit joiner? - 29 replies

I’m going to be making some face frames for cabinets and joining some wood for a table top. I would like to join the wood with biscuits or dowels. I’ve been looking at getting either the porter cable 557 biscuit joiner or this rockler doweling jig. is the biscuit joiner going to be quicker & easier? or is the doweling jig...

biscuit joiner? - 21 replies

ok there are 4 reviews of biscuit joiners in the review section but I know there are probably more out there. I think I might really use one for miters and tabletop making, do you guys use yours a lot? I’m also pretty tight with my money but I might be willing to shell out $200 or so for one if I will use it a lot. Is the porter-cab...

How to hinge a round hobbit door? - 5 replies

A round door would look cool on anything from a birdhouse to an actual life-size door. Remember the round doors on the hobbit-holes from Lord of the Rings? Any ideas of how to hinge it? Here is one I found from searching on the web.

table saw clicking as you turn it by hand, looking for advice - 28 replies

I have a Delta contractor table saw. If you spin the blade by hand you can hear the arbor making a click sound each time as it goes around. It sounds normal when running, probably because the clicks are so close together and it’s going much faster. I looked under there and can’t see anything that looks like it’s hitting so...

Got extra sawdust? - 7 replies

Sawdust comes in handy for cleaning up messeskinda common sense, but here’s what I’ve been using it for lately:I don’t have a drain in my garage and it’s been pretty snowy here lately. Every time I pull in my car, there is a puddle of mud/slush/water on my garage floor. I dump a 5 gallon bucket of sawdust on it, sprea...

which table saw? (it's probably an easy question) - 9 replies

Ok, I have a Jet 10” benchtop table saw w/ stand. I want to change to a 1998 Delta Contractor’s saw. I’m pretty sure I’m going to do it but thought I’d check to see what ya’ll thought. I want to swap because I don’t like the non-standard miter slots, fence, and weird blade insert. I have made a zer...

which planer to buy? - 17 replies

Hi all-I’ve been enjoying the site and am looking for a planer. I’m just getting started in woodworking. Small budget so probably a portable planer. Any opinions on the Delta vs. the Ridgid? Delta only has 2 knives vs. 3 on the Ridgid…the Ryobi is only $199 at home depot but doesn’t have infeed/outfeed tables and that...
