It is the season I pretty much just want to shut down and watch football. (Boise State in the Fiesta bowl!) Sometimes the world can drain my spirit and the last place I want to be is behind the table saw. I have a fellow who wants me to do kitchen cabinets on a production scale. I wonder about all my peers who are successful building kitchens. The long hours they work. Always needing good help but only paying about half a living wage. The headaches and I see how they have lost the joy in doing the craft. Then I see the Lumberjocks who want to make a living at woodworking. I think there has to be some magic in what we do. Like moths to a flame. I see alot of spirituality in woodworkers. I always come back to having to turn the whole thing over to God. Out of one eye I’m struggling to get the type of work I want to do in a world thats indifferent to much beside money. Thats my eye of self will. Then I get graced with the understanding of just how blessed my life is. I have the money I need working part time. Being able to build my house and explore my creative path. More importain I can lose everything and know its not about stuff. It is about trusting God and his universe.
...o ya and go Broncos!

Dennis, it’s difficult being a man of faith in a materialistic world. but this is nothing new. I’m reminded about Jesus’ teaching on God’s provision in Luke 11:22-31. He charges us to seek God first and “these things” will be our as well.

Of course, by a global standard, the poorest amongst us is rich. So in this sense God has delivered as Christ promised he would.

Yo Dennis,
Blessings to you and yours during this Great time of year. I was wondering if this fellow would let you build cabinets 3 or 4 times a year to break the monotony of doing what you really like. Maybe a set of cabinets every 3 months. Just a thought

Thats pretty much what he does. I go and install about 2 or 3 kitchens a month for him and have the rest of the time to do importain stuff like fish and watch football…build my house, some custom woodwork…spend way too much time on the computer(All Martins fault!)

Have your say...
