The National Association for the Self Employed (NASE) which I joined to get health insurance coverage, has a program to provide grants to small-business members for up to $5,000 for business needs. Their application is pretty simple, except that I need to send a full Business Plan, so I have been working on that document for several months. I have the Business/Marketing Plan nearly finished today, and so I will be sending out the application and grant proposal in the mail tomorrow.
I am asking for funds to purchase equipment I need in my shop, a larger surface planer, a table sanding belt machine, and a Multi-router machine for cutting joinery. All of this comes to a lot more than $5000, but just in case they felt sorry for me and had extra money, I wanted to give them some ideas of ways they could help me out.
More updates on this process later,
