I was out in the yard planting two little maple trees and the “wife” called from the house, “Phone call, come in the house, it’s Joel Tille from Iowa.” Now, normally, when I am a hundred yards from the house, covered in dirt and sweat and planting trees, and the root ball is laying on the ground rapidly drying out, I would just say, “take a message.”

But, “wife” has learned a few things in 15 years of marriage, namely, because she told me who was calling, I dropped the shovel and headed to the house.

Joel and his wife are planning to drive over 7 hours down from Iowa to meet with Karson, Kev, me, and “wife”. This is turning into a cool deal! I don’t know if Joel’s wife is a lumberjock yet, but maybe we can get her join up.

Just think, without Martin, none of us would know each other, or be getting together. Thanks Martin,

Back to prep work, who let this place “go” so long? Oh yea, it was me.

P.S. Oh, yea, I forgot to tell you. The reason I was in a rush to plant the little maple trees is that they have been sitting in a bucket outside the shop all summer, and I couldn’t bear to have a few lumberjocks, winners and runner’s up, no less, come and see that travesty. My friend in Wichita that built the Pine Adirondack chairs gave the little maples to me in June, and I finally got them in the ground this morning. I will probably be hauling water to them for at least 6-8 weeks until the cool Fall and moist weather hits, but someday I will be glad I planted them.

P.S.S. If Al Gore says that everything that has ever happened bad is blamed on Global Warming (ice storms and snow and heat waves and everything in between) because there is too much Carbon Dioxide in the air…......why isn’t he just promoting the planting of more trees? Inquring minds want to know. A few years ago he was all about reducing the world’s population, and now he wants to save us all. What is up with this guy? At least he invented the internet for us all to use and enjoy. Ok, now I’ve gone and done it, exposed politics in a woodworking forum.

Get the hose ready, a heat wave is coming your way. Great job on the trees, last count I’ve planted 26 here.

I’m used to the heat in August here. This summer I have a/c in the shop…...... and yes Obi, I am a sissy, and proud of it. I even cried when Ol’ Yeller was shot.

FYI… Planting 44 million trees each year for fifty years would result in absorbing one quarter of one percent of the carbon dioxide the U.S. would emit over the next fifty years so probably not the best solution.

Also Gore was talking about the High Performance Computing and Communication Act of 1991 aka The Gore Bill which directly led to the development of Mosaic in 1993, the browser that introduced the net was we know it today (Mosaic later spawned Netscape). For all his faults Gore was directly involved in promoting the very thing we are using right now to chitter chatter about… um …. wood… So while he never claimed he invented the internet he sure did help it along.

Mark, I wish I could be there. I not that far away from your location. I must have missed your post. I have two fellow Lumberjocks that leave in this area. We could have loaded up, and came up together. We’ll catch the picnic the next time. You’ll have a good time. Stay cool it’s going to be HOT!

My wife and I were planning a trip to Mark’s place this fall. Then Karson and I had messaged back and forth and found out he was going to Marks on Friday. I wasn’t sure we could make it,(we are panning a trip to Carvefest 2007 in MN Saturday or Sunday. Then I read Mark’s post this morning about Kev also being there, I called Susie and vacations were set in motion. Off to Kansas to enjoy some good ole LJ company.

Ahh yes – Martin you have done a wonderful job with the website. It has grown not only in the number of jocks, but also in it’s content and flexibility of use. Most times I log on, I find new features that I hadn’t noticed before.
Thank you Martin for the website and the comradery that has blossomed from it.

Mark – I saw the weather this morning, leave the AC on in the shop and the door open for the picnic. lol
