I blogged a couple of months back about my application submittal for a micro-business grant from the National Association of the Self Employed ( I received notice yesterday that they were overwhelmed by the number of responses for people requesting the grants (never a good sign), and they have reviewed my application, found it complete, but have elected not to reward me any of the grant money.

It was funny, I was sitting on the couch at lunch time looking at the Grizzly 2007 catalog reading through the specs again on the tool I was going to buy, when my wife carried the mail in and handed me the envelope. After reading the letter, I said, “well, guess there is no sense reading the catalog any more, I better get back to work.”

maybe next time,

Hey, Mark, you’ve been around long enough to know you should never read a woodworking catalogs, go to a woodworking shows (unless you are exhibiting), or read a woodworking magazines (unless it’s an article you wrote). It’s simply too much temptation for any LumberJock.

Sorry about the grant – but then it’s probably tainted money anyway (rationalize, rationalize, etc.).

Sorry to hear that.

Maybe the next time you try something like this, you should try going through your Senator, or Congressman. Sometimes they can give your application a boost.
Most of them politicians can work wonders in order to get some votes, & also help the people in their district.
