I need an accurate ruler - 24 replies

If you’ve looked at some of my posts lately, I’ve got a new sawstop. On that saw, and the first time for me, is what seems like a super accurate fence ruler. In the past I always cut things longer and sneaked up on a fit with multiple cuts. Because of this, I’ve always used a standard tape measure. Nothing too accurate needed...

Old Craftsman drill sharpener, Anyone have experience with one? - 2 replies

Okay, so I’ve got this ton of dull drill bits. It’s getting to the point where I’m now picking them over looking for the least dull one. Sharpening them free hand has had limited results. I’ve contemplated a drill doctor and other devices and even tried some homemade wood jigs. Still with mixed results. I came across i...

Which Sawstop? - 48 replies

This is not a which brand of table saw to buy question. I’ve decided (and it’s just my opinion) that for me, as I get older, the safety mechanism of the sawstop is a no brainer. Your opinion may vary. I respect that. My 1985 Delta/Rockwell constractors saw has had mucho use over the years. It’s been a workhorse and relia...

Sloppy shop with more experience? - 24 replies

I just finished a cradle for my daughter’s upcoming delivery. I sat back and thought, “I’m going to rearrange things again. Just a little this time in the shop. That cabinet over there. Maybe this tool nearer the window, etc.” Then I looked at things. I’d gotten sloppy over the years. This isn’t about cleaning...

How do you keep it clean!? - 31 replies

So, for those of you who have clean shops, I mean really clean, how do you do it? Okay, I’ve been working in my shop for years now. I’ve reorganized and rebuilt parts of it a few times. It is fairly full of tools, hand and power tools. It’s 24’x24’, heated and with a dust collector for the tools that pretty much ...

Is it my brushes? - 9 replies

My Bosch ROS sander that I’ve had a few years and put a fair number of miles on it has suddenly started acting strangely. When I start it at full speed it is a bit slower and when I put it to wood it has very little power. Sometimes after several minutes it will gain power and act normal and sometimes it does and then becomes anemic again....

Recommendations for hutch topper design? - 6 replies

I’m building a small hutch. It’s about 36” wide. It’s made of cherry and will have a natural poly finish to match the rest of the kitchen I made. I’m in a quandary about a good style for the top of the hutch. I suppose it should match or at least complement the rest of the kitchen design. I’m not sure about w...

SpokeShave, any recommendations? - 10 replies

Years ago I had an old spokeshave. I used it a lot and loved it. I have no idea where it is and haven’t seen it in years. I’m considering purchasing another one. It will be a straight one as opposed to a curved blade one as it’s most useful to me. I’d love a veritas but $95 is a bit steep. I’m sure it’s the...

How to repair cracked kitchen cabinet door? Anyone with advice? - 25 replies

After two years one of my cabinet doors in the kitchen that I made has cracked. I suspect the unusually dry winter we’re having might have something to do with it. I also suspect that even thought the doors panels are floating as they should in the frame this one probably caught the edge of the glue at the rail/style miter and the corner i...

Interior door with cabinet bits? - 5 replies

I was wondering if anyone has done this, can recommend from experience how to do this, or can give advice on another way. My question: Has anyone ever made a double sided raised panel interior door like this with regular cabinet bits? I have made lots of raised panel cabinet doors. I have sets of Frued bits in various configurations. IR...

Can't find it now. I should have favorited it. - 6 replies

Grrrrrr. I thought I had favorited it, now I can’t find it. I’ll bet someone has it in favorites It is a large round coffee table project. Thick round edged glass top. It has two stylized flat vertical pieces of wood that pivot by an embedded aluminum rod at one end of each of them. Here is a REALLY bad freehand scribble of about...

double emails? Never mind, problem solved. - 13 replies

I don’t want to start another issue post but just documenting in case it’s an issue. On email notices that come to my mailbox suddenly they are all double. Two of each. Again… is it me or anyone else? My inbox was set to receive any mail with ‘amazon’ twice…. problem solved, and nothing to do with LJ’s.

Sigh.... Another LJ website issue? Anyone seeing this or is it just me? - 16 replies

I wanted to see how people have decorated the face of their murphy beds as I’m currently building one. I decided to search LJ’s to look at some. No matter what I search for I get this. Maybe it’s just me? Anyone seeing it?

Cleaning the shop give aways: screw clamps to anyone local to So. Maine - 8 replies

spoken for by manic matt. Interestingly he lives just down the road I sent out five ‘if it fits it ships’ boxes this morning as I continue to clean and do a complete remodel of the shop. Here are some screw (Jorgensen) clamps that I’ve never used. They had five years of dust on them. I blew them off and here they are. In goo...

Still cleaning: a couple more tools to give away - 5 replies

Spoken for. The first PM got them. Sorry! I’ve got these two pump screwdrivers to give away to a good home. Anyone who uses hand tools or collects them is welcome to them. Like the previous offers I just ask that you return the envelope with the cost of postage that will be in the box. And like before, I hate asking postage but to date...

Screw choices, buying some and need some feedback first - 23 replies

I use screws a lot. I’ve always used phillips wood screws and deck screws in the shop. I’ve recently begun liking the cabinet screws that I have that are used with my Kreg jig for general purpose use as they snug things up niceliy without splitting anything. They’re a cabinet screw and don’t have to be ‘kreg’ ...

Shop Cleanout: Before it goes to the dump, can anyone use any of this stuff? - 4 replies

Abrasives are spoken for, sorry Still cleaning and renovating the shop. I’m getting rid of stuff that I’ve never used and hasn’t been touched in 5 years. Yesterday it was some auger bits and dados. Today it’s some other stuff that someone might want or not I don’t mind tossing them but if someone can use it…...

Hand tool users. I've got a few things to give away. - 4 replies

The set of bits are taken… I’ve emailed the person who got them. It was the first one. Also, the stacked dado is spoken for. .Well, in cleaning the shop I’ve got stuff to get rid of. It’s good stuff too. I just don’t see myself using any of it. It’s free (minus shipping, see below). Send me a personal message ...

Is the long format back? - 21 replies

Is it my computer or is the long format back. This time the website isn’t messed up but the blog and other areas are loooonnngggg. I guess it depends on the length of the blog. This long format is sort of ridiculous. If I were really verbose in a post then decided to put in a quoted article from another woodworkng website I wonder if i cou...
