« Part 1: In the beginning... Part 2 of Experiment in sweets. Making a Cotton Candy Machine. series no next part

Well, I’ve got to keep in mind that this is an experiment in making a cotton candy machine. It’s rough and I’ve finally gotten it to the point that I can try to make some cotton candy.

.
So, I made a ring of flashing and got it stabilized.

.
This is the inside after my first test run. I found out that my heat gun isn’t hot enough to melt the sugar, so I used my propane torch just to get things going and see if the mechanism would actually produce cotton candy.

.
Indeed it does. The quantity isn’t quite enough though. I need to rethink the heat/spinning process.

Shouldn’t you be doing something more woodworkingly like practicing your dovetails? :)

LOVE IT !!! But I think you need to pump up the volume on the heat.

I think pre-melting the sugar and pouring it into the spinner might work out.

Actually… today I melted sugar in the house and slowly poured it into the hopper of the machine. I quickly made a mass of cotton candy that resembled a white Christmas wreath. About 16” In diameter too. I didn’t take a picture of it as my wife and I ate it. But, i’ll be using the machine at a family gathering outside on Saturday. I’ll try to snap a picture then.

I hate to say this, but it isn’t politically correct to make cotton candy anymore, however, 50 years from now it will have been found to be a miraculous cure for something or other and you will be remembered as a man of vision. Have fun!
