I had to search on LJ’s for the guy who sold me this. If he were a member I’d actually feel bad. Looks like he’s not.

Last year I was doing a build and needed a scroll saw. I couldn’t justify purchasing an excalibur or Dewalt for $500 or more for so little use of it so I researched and bought what I thought might be a good lower cost one. I got a Hitachi. It’s worked great.
This is my year old Hitachi. It’s dusty for a reason. It’s one of those tools I rarely need but when I do little else will easily do the trick.

So, I’m on Craigslist the other day looking around in the next state over, New Hampshire. About 75 miles away I find a gentleman who has a little used Dewalt 788 for $75. This saw is on Amazon for $480 and is much more some other places. I call and ask the condition. he says it’s a few years old but has just a few hours use on it. He bought it new and needs to liquidate as they are moving to Florida. The wife and I drive to his house. Sure enough it looks great and works nicely. I give him $80 since the ATM gave me 20’s. He’s going to Florida and is selling off all his larger stuff. The other stuff is nice and nicely priced too. Not as nicely as this Dewalt but I don’t need any of the other stuff. Heck I don’t need this but I just couldn’t pass it up. Now what to do with the Hitachi.

I took the brushes out and sure enough they show very little wear

.

.

.
The machine really does have low vibration as many people say. It’s not even bolted to a stand yet.

I have one of those…somewhere….I think it is in my storeroom on the top shelf way in the back. I have only used mine once or twice….and that was before I bought my bandsaw. The bandsaw really takes the wind out of the scroll saw’s sails.

You sure got a great deal though….I think I paid almost $200 for mine used…..that $75 price is definitely a good gloat.

I agree Regglek but cutting inside holes isn’t easy with a band saw. I’ve got one too. The major thing I needed it for was this. I can’t imagine doing it on a band saw without cutting into the edge of the wood. Like I said, when you need it you need it. Cutting this type of thing in oak with a coping saw is a non-starter for me.

I just posted my first gloat myself. I looked at the site page and there you were. I’d say you made out like bandit. If you weren’t so far away I’d bee asking how much for the Hitachi.

You’re absolutely correct. You don’t need it. That’s why I’m going to do you a huge favor and give you your money back on it.
Seriously though, nice find.

You are finding deals like crazy! Maybe this is a reward for sharing the last one with everyone! Enjoy it, I hear it is a fantastic machine.

See? And my wife always asks me, “Why are you looking at tools on CL, you don’t need anything, do you?”

And I always tell her no, but you never know what you’ll find. Grats!!

CraftsmanOfTheLake – Do you happen to know what else they have. I live in MA not far from the NH border and am in need of a bandsaw and a few other tools.

Well, I just received an email from Woodcraft. 50% off gift certificates for father’s day at Newington NH woodcraft only. $25 certificates for $12.50. I wonder if there is a limit? So I could get that $299 air filter for $150. Hmmm…..
