While I gain woodworking inspiration from my fellow lumberjocks, I have found the inspiration to bear with the health improvement “therapy” that the doctor has leaned somewhat hard on me about…

I guess sometimes when you see what others are going through, you realize that goals you thought were beyond your reach really aren’t…

Amen Brother.
Woodworking has become the best medicine for me with my cancer. There are so many aspects to woodworking that if I’m not up to standing at the router table or table saw, I can still sit at my bench and do things until I feel better. The important thing is “I AM DOING” not just “existing”. That was a good post on your blog.
Blessings,
Steve

Steve, I need to ask about the standing thing. Would a shop stool help you? I know because of my issues standing for long periods just kills my back, but I find that if I can just take some of the pressure off by parking my tail on a stool, I can keep working without the pain…

I know doesn’t do much good for things that need a lot of motion like routing large panels or making long rips on the table saw, but then again, I am fine if I am moving, it is standing still that just kills me…

Steve:
I was a Chair sitter between 2000 and 2010 when a doctor and Christ looked out for me. Since June 2010 I have spent 6 to 8 hours a day in the shop enjoy more that I did before 2010. I lost 50 lbs in the progress. I now look forward walking out to the shop and having fun all day.
All I can say is keep your faith and push your doctors for help so you can play in your shop.

Have your say...
