It has been mentioned by at least one other LJ that since there seem to be more than a few of us here in Texas, particularly coastal Texas, that a Texas LJs get together might be a good idea. And since I am sure it is more than just me that has lots of scrap hardwood, partcularly pecan and mesquite bits and pieces, that maybe we can do a good old fashioned Texas BBQ… LOML and I are looking for an excuse to head out somewhere like Lake Texana anyway….
I make a mean Brisket, and LOML makes the best Fajitas…

No bunk house, but I have no fewer than 10 tents. (Range from a Eureka Solitaire, basically an overglorified Bivy Sack, to a Swiss Gear 10×20 3 room tent with a 6’ 5” center height.)
What furniture show?
How about New Braunfels during Wurstfest? Wait, might not be a good idea, beer, sausages, and power tools. Bad plan…

You pay air fare from Alaska? ........’spose I could mush on down…..or hook a ride with a migrating trumpeter swan…......
Oh well, guess its that ol’ salmon, halibut, moose, and caribou as usual…...wish I could get some of that there barbecue…...Sherie my wife is a Texas gal, maybe have to see what she could do with some bear brisket, as long as its not a salmon bear, maybe not too bad…....hmmmmmmm

Jim,
Air fare is a little rich for my blood. How much is a bus ticket?
Greyhound Bus Lines, not just transportation, it’s an adventure!

David,
Thanks for the offer, but I think we’ll stay home and bite the…....bear. Air travel dominates in Alaska for a good reason, driving anywhere takes so long all you have time for is to turn around and go back home…...........think of me while you are eating brisket and fajitas (-:

Let me know where and when. I’ve got some wood scraps also. By the way, furniture show in Kerrville has a lot of really nice pieces exhibited this years as always.

I’m on the south side of Houston and would like to attend. My schedule is a little crazy with two young kids, so I will leave the planning to someone else. Thanks for the interest, and I look forward to the outcome.

I am one of the Texas coasties…When I ain’t makin’ sawdust or traveling for my job, I am fishin’!
Derrek…I live in Angleton. I make trips to Houston Hardwoods or Charlie’s, depending on what part of H-town I’m in. If I am around, I would definitely like to meet some fellow termites.
I found out about this site from 2coolfishing.com They have a woodworkers page on their site also, but most of it is duck calls, bottle stoppers, pens, and some really beautiful hollowed out work. It is a great site and good people…just like here…Vic

This sounds like a great group. I’m always ready for BBQ. I just took 4 chicken out of the smoker. Been smoking since 4:00 pm so 6:30 hours smoking.
Cherry and maple wood smoke. It’s 1030 PM and the family just finished off one chicken.

Depending where it is to be – the coast isn’t more than about 4-5 hours from Waxahachie.

I’m thinking somewhere in the Hill Country… Kind of Central-ish. Not real sure though… Kind of sandbagging for now to see where folks report in from…. I know Houston and Dallas are the big towns with lots going on, but places to meet might be tough… The idea of Kerville sounds good, but I only head out that way to get Deer….

San Antonio is the best place in Texas! Beautiful hill country, The Alamo and Missions to explore, lots and lots of great Mexican food. Several State and Federal parks in the area for camping/picknicking.
I’m from the original Spring Branch, TX north of San Antonio.
