little tool chest

This is my first tool box & my first tool chest. The tool box was my second set of dovetails my first are on a little box somewhere at R.V.P. 1875. I don’t have much to say about my tool box other then its dovetailed on the bottom and the handle goe’s through the sidesand is pegged from the top the sides are just nailed on.
The tool chest is somthing I made at R.V.P. 1875 for handful of tools I had at the time. It’s dovetailed at each corner and the skirt is dovetailed in the opposite direction but still nailed on. the top and bottom are grooved in. When I built the chest it didn’t have eny tills. When I was at an auction I bid on some tools and this box came with it. So I wondered what to do with it, so I tried to put it in my tool chest. But it was tool long by I think it was 3/4” to 1” inch too long. So I cut it down added some supports for it in the chest and it now I have a till.
The till is made of plywood and spray painted silver. I don’t use plywood that often because I don’t like the way the end grain shows. (I Don’t use veneer, never learned how) It’s just nailed together.
Well that’s all I can think of. hope you found it interesting. Love comments. Thanks for looking.

two drawer tool chest

This is a tool box I made to hold what little tools I had at the time. But now I have meny more tools than it can hold or will fit. It was my first drawer’s project so they’re not that pritty. It’s made from old barn board, I planed the paint off, dovetailed the back and part of the top front. the top, shelfs, and bottom are grooved in. I made the drawer handles from two cut offs. The drawers are a loose fit but that just makes them easier to pull out right. The top will hold a stanley no. 3 on it’s side and various other block planes. A stanley no. 5 might fit but i haven’t tried it yet. No I don’t smoke cigars I got it with a bunch of gimlets in it. It’s just a useful little box you know for holding little things. I left it unfinished becuse I’m just not good at finishing plus it’s a tool box whats it need finish for. well thanks for look at IT. hope it was fun.

dovetailed bench

This is a bench I had to make in my apprinticeship. It is made from pine 40”Lx17”Tx113/4”D. I now use it in the mudroom for shoes. It was a fun little project. The corners are dovetailed, the shelf is grooved in. and the top and bottom face is cut into the sides for extra strenght. The bottom one is dovetailed lapped in to help the bottom from coming a part. The dye is home brewed from things like walnuts and rasberries. The finish is a secret recipe. Hope you like it, thanks for looking.

It took me three days to square, glue, and finish. It’s not the prittyest square but i’m happy with the results. If you want to know more about it just read the blog or just ask me. Hope you like it, thanks for looking.

wifes sewing box

One day my wife said she needed a place to keep her sewing stuff. I thought about it for a while, and this is what I came up with. It’s a little box with dovetailed sides and grooved in top and bottom, and the try sits in a rabbited ledge. The lid wouldn’t close so I hade to put a rabbit on the top edge’s of the tray so the lid would fit down over it.
I ran across the hardware at an auction I was at this spring. The handles I think a handforged, but i can’t tell. The stain I used was red mahogany, with a linseed finish. One coat a day for two weeks, once a week for a month, once a month for a year, once a year for the rest of its life.
Thanks for checking out my projects hope it was fun.

table top desk

I built this while in my apprinticeship at R.V.P. 1875. I used pine for this project. I had to dovetail the corners, groove in the bottom, and rabbit the lid. the skirt is dovetailed in the opposite direction of the body for more strength. It took about three day’s to build and assemble. The shelf is grooved in and the divider is as well. It was pretty fun to build. I’m quite new to all this so i really havn’t much to say, but i’ll keep trying each time to elongate the story as it is. so hope you like what I’ve got. thanks for looking.
