Next Leg of the Journey

Throughout my life, I have had incidents where fate comes in and seems to give me a push in a direction that, in hindsight, seems to be where I needed to launch to begin the next leg of the journey. A few days ago, I responded to a Dremel update on Facebook and won a new tool to add to my collection. In the process, I met a woodworker named Jordan Straker who befriended me on Facebook and recommended this site. So now I am here and all moved in to my new virtual workshop and already feel quite at home. No small part due to the warm welcome and immediate responses to my posts. It looks like I walked in to a very strong woodworking community.

I have been playing with wood and tools for the last couple of years. The projects varied in complexity. Some were done in a few days, some a few hours, and some still waiting to be completed in my shop. These last couple years were a form of preparation for the work to be done from here on out. I have learned much in regards to what tools complete what tasks, the finer art of measuring, the little things that can make or break a project, and I have much still to learn. But I feel that today is day one, next stage of the journey. And, to my great joy, surprise, and relief :) I find that I am not alone.

So thank you fellow woodworkers for the welcome and supportive comments already received. I have moved in and will be here for awhile. I look forward to sharing any of my experiences and gaining from the wisdom all of you are so kindly willing to share.

I too am a relative newcomer to the hobby, although a long time utilitarian DIYer in the woodworking realm. I have been a member here for 2 months now, and it is definitely the focus of my day on the net.

I don’t know why I didn’t make this my home page, duh. Doing it now.
