I am relatively new to woodworking but worked on projects with my Dad when I was younger. I could never make anything square until I not so long ago read that I should not rely on measurements and start using stop blocks. Sounded obvious enough so once I started doing that, the rest was history. That and the internet is a wealth of information. I tend to favor craftsman style and other simple yet sturdy designs. My entire workshop and projects are done on a VERY limited budget. My tools consist of hand-me-downs from my Dad as he upgrades (I try to convince him he needs to upgrade) and what I find second hand. I purchase bulk cherry at a nearby mill that auctions it off twice a year for a good price. The remainder I get from the scrap pile of nearby millwork shops. I'm partial to cherry and quartersawn oak. I purchased a mill for my chainsaw mill so that I can make lumber when I find something interesting. There are LOTS of big old trees on my property just waiting to be made into something. Let's see what the future holds.
