Part 1: Segmented Abstract Model

11-13-2010 01:34 AM by darryl | 11 comments »

As some of you may know my younger brother, Sam, died from injuries in an auto accident recently. He was 30. I tried spending time in the woodshop only to find I couldn’t focus on anything. Just recently, I’ve been able to continue working on my current project. I still have some shaping to do on the inside of the top section and there is some sanding and finishing to be done as well. The first candy dish has 61 segments using 10 segments per ring The second candy dish has 121 segments using 20 segments per ring I’ve got both sanded dow...

Part 5: playing with color

09-05-2012 01:37 AM by darryl | 5 comments »

I’ve got a couple of segmented hollow vessels in the works right now. One that i’m working on I’m finishing in blue. I picked up a tube of the indigo Minwax Color Express a while back and thought I’d finially try it out. After a single coat of the indigo, I then applied six (I think) coats of tung oil to get the glossy look. I still need to finish turning this piece, but I figured I would do a little experimenting before I was really ready to apply the final fin...
