This is what I call the “Wood Lab”. It’s the dim creepy basement where I conduct my unspeakable experiments on perfectly good wood.

Hello Dan,
You have interesting looking shop space. From the shavings on the floor it looks like you are doing some work in there. To tell the truth I would rather see something like this as opposed to a pristine shop which looks like it isn’t being used.
Thanks for the post. I enjoyed visiting with you.

Thanks Scott,
Technically, this is just the “Lab” where I tinker and experiment. The actual Shop is in my garage which is such a confounded mess that I haven’t taken a picture of it yet. But, I can’t imagine ever having a pristine workspace—maybe for a day or two if I was going to paint the walls or something…

Hey Dan, I was a little confused with the pics of the shop. Couldn’t quite make out what tools you had. I’m originally from Logan county but please don’t hold that against me. Good to see a fellow hillbilly woodworker. I’d love to be home in the mountains. Lets see some pics of the garage now – I’ll post some of mine in a few days.

Keith,
What you’ll find in that mess are a lot of hand tools and portable power tools, but right in the middle of it all there’s a 60 year old Shopsmith 10ER. It’s the heart of my mad scientist wood lab. I suppose since I’ve cleared a path, I could take a picture of the garage.
Kentucky is just next door—you gotta come back & visit! But at least you got out of Logan ;)

Scotsman,
Well, I like trying joinery experiments, like the “Fishtail” joint posted in my blog. I have another similar experiment in the lab right now. I’m also working on some designs that use traditional forms (chest, desk, trestle table, etc.) but use wooden mechanical joints—umm, just stay tuned for future projects.
I do make more traditional furniture items, but I find my imagination takes me in a contemporary direction.
