Table saw purchase.... - 23 replies

Really close to buying this. Already got permission from the wife – lol. Just wanting some thoughts from the Lumberjocks community. Anyone have this saw? Like it? What are some things I should check when I go look at it? Right now I’m using a 15+ year old Jet contractor saw. A cabinet saw would be an amazing upgrade…...

What size do most use?..... - 53 replies

Hey guys, quick question…. I’m about to start designing some built-in cabinets and built-in shelves for my living room wall. Something similar to this design…. I’m wondering what the common depths are (depth of shelves, depth of cabinets, overhang of cabinet top)? Any help would be appreciated…

Selling stuff on Lumberjocks.... - 29 replies

Hey Guys, I have a quick question for you: I was private messaged the other day about building a prayer-kneeler (an old project of mine) for someone. They want me to cut all the pieces for them and mail it to them disassembled, so they can put it together. They only want the pieces cut, and they’ll put it together and sand/stain, etc....

How flat is flat enough? - 14 replies

I’m practicing refurbishing a cheaper Stanley Hand Plane, in hopes of gaining some experience before finding a good one to refurbish. I got a 3/8” thick piece of glass and am flattening the bottom of the plane. I started with 120 then 220, and then finished with a few passes of 500. You can see there’s a dip in the c...

Is this a good Craigslist find?..... - 15 replies

I’ve been looking for some planes to refinish. I know the Bailey is a good plane, but is the Marsh?

HVLP setup - 9 replies

I’m thinking about buying the Harbor Freight Professional HVLP (68843), I’ve read some really good reviews for what it costs. However it requires 12-15 CFM @ 40 PSI. My compressor is really small. Only an 8 Gal, with 5 CFM @ 40PSI. Of course this is too small of a compressor. My question is, could I still run this gun on this ...

craigslist find - any thoughts? - 10 replies

http://cedarrapids.craigslist.org/tls/5423269702.html Anyone familiar with this model? Tried looking it up but couldn’t find it. Its listed for only $50. Seems like a beast of a sander!

Winter shop: pole barn (heating question) - 45 replies

Question…. I have a double wide, double deep, pole barn/garage (roughly 20×30 garage). This is my first winter in the shop with all my tools in there. There is zero insulation in it. Insulating the garage is not in the budget at the moment, and and may never be – as this is not a forever home… I’m wondering ...

What are your thoughts on this Craigslist find? - 23 replies

http://iowacity.craigslist.org/tls/5319161471.html Is this a cabinet saw? I’m looking to upgrade my jet contractor saw – it just doesn’t hold the blade position very well. Not very repeatable. Think this saw would fit the bill?

Viscosity cup - Thinning latex paint - 2 replies

So am I missing something?.... So I finally bought a viscosity cup to help get better/more consistent results thinning my latex paint to shoot it through my Woodriver Pro HVLP sprayer. Lots of forums I read say to thin the paint by roughly 10%, or that the viscosity cup should be 120secs or less (give or take).... I put a little bit of ...

Poly after paint - 24 replies

Hey guys – quick question. I just got done painting some of my kitchen cabinets that I’m building. How long do you guys wait for the paint to dry before putting poly on? I plan to use Minwax (water based) Polycrylic – Clear Satin (not sure if I should brush on, or spray on – how bad is cleaning the spray gun up after...

please add this feature - 6 replies

Maybe this is already possible, and I’m just not seeing it…. It would be nice if you could do a search on lumberjocks for the tags/keywords and sort them by projects, forums, blogs, videos, etc. When you do a search, you just get links to every post with those keywords, which makes it tedious to search through the list when you...

UPDATE: kitchen cabinets (questions) - 26 replies

Gonna try my hand at making some kitchen cabinets. At Menards they have some prefinished (I believe Birch or Maple) plywood that I was going to use, to save my self the step of finishing the inside of the cabinet when done…. However I plan to make the outside of the cabinets white. Not sure if it’s a good idea to prime/paint ove...

Craigslist Find: Bandsaw - what are your thoughts? - 24 replies

Since buying a new house and finally having some shop space, I’ve been in the market for some tools!! (yay me!). Came across this gem on Craigslist today. I’m no expert on machinery (especially old ones like this) Wondering your thoughts on this old band saw? http://dubuque.craigslist.org/tls/5011776518.html

Lawn mower Question - 26 replies

......I know this isn’t a woodworking question, but this is the only forum I’m a part of, and figured I’d ask here first. I turned my Self-propelled lawn mower on its side and sprayed the underside with water and cleaned it all up. After that I put it back in the garage. 4 days later (today) I got it back out to cut the gr...

First coat with HVLP gun. How's it look? - 11 replies

So (like I posted in a previous forum topic), I’m painting some doors white. Here is a pic of the doors before they were sanded. I got these doors in the bargain area at Menards. They were already stained but, had no top coat on them. I sanded it down, cleaned it up really well, and put the first coat of paint on. (I didnt use p...

HVLP spraying question - 3 replies

So I used my HVLP sprayer for the first time last weekend (practicing) and it seemed to work pretty well! I thinned the paint out with Windshield Washer fluid. For my first time using it, I think I got pretty good results. I have the day off tomorrow and plan on painting some of our doors (for our house remodel). I have a few questions. ...

Making cabinet doors - 33 replies

I’ve started previous threads on my kitchen remodel. However I wanted to get some of your opinions…. I am making mission style cabinet doors to upgrade our kitchen. They will be painted white. The accuracy and repeatability of my table saw makes this process super slow. I’m wondering instead of doing the tongue and gro...

Alright guys. I’m sorry for this… (I’m sure this has been answered MANY times before, but….) I have been saving my nickels and dimes for a while now to purchase my “for...
