Hello All,

My name is Carl Thompson. This is a really great site; I’m looking forward to being a regular member and contributor. I didn’t know these forums existed. Glad I surfed the net. Now I’ve just got to come up with the time to use the tips and tricks so generously provided.

I'm building a web site ( that will feature unique and affordable gifts for all occasions.

How does this relate to woodworking? Well, it comes from my thoroughly enjoyable love for working with wood; although it seems I never have enough time to do so. I enjoy building small projects, finishing wood, and repairs of wooden furniture. I am by no means an expert or professional. I would classify my skill level as "barely intermediate." I enjoy both the relaxation and the challenge of working with wood.

So, I would like to include in my web site, relatively small DIY projects that are for the beginners to intermediate skill level. An example would be to build a project as a gift for Moms, Dads, kids, friends, and loved ones – or for themselves. These could be shelves, spice-racks, bookends, toys, bird houses, and anything that one could dream up and build that would be treasured for years to come.

Since I'm not the expert, I would like to feature projects submitted by other woodworkers and give them the credit – 100%. For the featured projects the woodworker could include their web site, contact information, project plans and/or projects they may sell. Hopefully, it will be a win-win situation and neat opportunity for us both.

Therefore, if you have some “How To Guides,” new projects (with drawings, photographs, materials list, etc. – they don’t need to be fancy) or older projects you built when you first started working with wood (or are just proud of) and you would like to have them featured, please visit our web site and click on “contact us” and email me. I will answer your email and we can go from there. The web site is very new and is being updated regularly.

This is not an attempt to promote my web site as much as it is an opportunity for woodworkers (including me) to share their projects and to promote themselves. I hope I’m not violating any posting rules. If so, then I sincerely apologize and please disregard. It’s still a great site – so much to learn, so little time. I must admit, I feel somewhat intimidated by all the great projects that the skilled woodworkers have featured.

Have a great Holiday season.
