SawStop 3HP Professional Cabinet Saw W/ 36" T-Glide Fence System

SawStop 3HP Professional Cabinet Saw W/ 36" T-Glide Fence System

640 days ago by Chris | 31 comments »

For many years I have used a General 50-185 Contractor saw. It performed well over the years but my woodworking has advanced enough that I wanted something a little better. I have looked at the major cabinet saw brands but came back to this one because the others didn’t really trump it in any way plus it has superior safety features. I know that there are a lot of SawStop haters out there but my decision had very specific reasoning to back it up. My right index finger was severed by shr...

Wow, wish I would have bought one sooner.

Wow, wish I would have bought one sooner.

I finally broke down and purchased a drum sander while Jet was having a 15% off sale. After reading the reviews here and elsewhere I decided to go with the 16-32. I had zero issues with tracking on the belt and leveling the drum was pretty straight forward. I spent about 2 hours setting it up and testing it out. I added a set of locking casters to make it mobile. I usually spend a couple of hours leveling a glue up by hand when making cutting boards. This sander has saved me around 8hrs o...

Great upgrade from my old DP

Great upgrade from my old DP

961 days ago by Chris | 3 comments »

I have owned this drill press for about a year and everything was spot on right out of the box. The laser was perfectly aligned and I love the work light. The over sized table is great for woodworking especially as compared to the normal DP’s intended for metal working. It also appears to have plenty of power for my needs. All was going well until 2 days before this past Christmas when the motor would not start nor the work light or laser turn on. I was leaving town for a few days a...

A must have for my shop

A must have for my shop

1404 days ago by Chris | 7 comments »

This was a birthday present this year; I have only just been able to get some shop time with it. I am in the middle of a bookcase build and found this to be invaluable removing the whisper thin bit of wood needed to make the shelves fit just right or to clean up the home made moldings to complete the top of the case. Ease of Use:If you have used other planes you will find this plane to be straight forward and intuitive. Adjustments: The mouth is adjusted by loosening the locking screw...

Another of my shop favorites

Another of my shop favorites

Accuracy, reliability, & quality; I received this a a Christmas present but have not had a lot of shop time until this fall. I love using this square on my projects and when setting up my machinery. The scale is very easy to read, the head slides easily along the length of the rule and it is about the easiest to put back on when you take it off as I sometimes do. Is it expensive? Yes, but I feel it’s worth every penny.

My most used measuring device in the shop

My most used measuring device in the shop

I have used this for marking out joinery, as a depth gauge, to check squareness, the list goes on. When I’m in the shop this is always in my pocket. Some may argue about the price but I must say that short of theft or me loosing it somehow I will not have to buy another one ever.

Outstanding addition to the clamping arsenal

Outstanding addition to the clamping arsenal

I purchase the Bowlamp Master Set earlier this year because there was some case work and panel glue-ups I wanted to do during the fall season. While building this Mahogany Bookcase I used them on both the face frame and the shelf edging. I have found them to be of very high quality and workmanship and had only very miner issues with using them. The problems were all on my end and not that of the product itself.

Best Circular Saw I have ever used....

Best Circular Saw I have ever used....

1543 days ago by Chris | 18 comments »

We purchased the TS 75 Plunge Saw a few months ago after another regular circular saw fried on me again. I am not a contractor or a woodworking professional; but, I do expect things to work for more than a couple of years. I chose the TS 75 after being fortunate enough to use a friends TS 55 to rough out the pieces for a couple of book cases. Power:The 75 has plenty of power to cut my sheet goods and rough lumber to usable dimensions with lots to spare. Accuracy:With the included tra...

A better mouse trap.....

A better mouse trap.....

I received the Sorby Sandmaster from my children as a Christmas present. On the surface you might think “Why do I need a tool for sanding a bowl?” I normally use regular sandpaper (Norton or 3M) for finishing my bowls; this however turned out to be a whole different story. I found that I am not seeing the wonderful concentric circles from the sandpaper scratches and I don’t believe I’m getting much if any heat buildup. I just completed a crotch maple bowl this mornin...

Woodhaven Shelf Pin Jig

Woodhaven Shelf Pin Jig

1913 days ago by Chris | 11 comments »

I was half way into my current project of building a pair of Chimney Bookcases when I realized I would benefit from a shelf pin jig instead of trying to make my own. I have very little time for my hobby lately and so using a pre-made jig is far more cost effective for me so I borrowed this Woodhaven jig from a friend. The package comes with the pins that let you align it to the side of the workpiece (with extras) as well two other pins (5mm & 1/4”), the 1/4” is shown in the...
