Glue for pine with lots of pitch - 1 reply
I am working on a table for an historic site, using some old heart pine with a lot of pitch (smells great). I am concerned about glue choice due to the amount of rosin in some areas. This is old wood so I am not concerned about it liquifying. Titebond 1,2,3; hide, PU, epoxy ?? Top is 1- 1/8” and the table could see heavy loads...

Repair on leg of very expensive antique - 9 replies
I have been asked to repair a cracked rear leg on a late 1700’s mahogany highboy that is in a local historic site. I have repaired a couple of other items successfully so they think I can do anything. In this case, the piece has been appraised in the low 6 digits, so naturally I am very cautious. The legs are cabriole and the rear one...

Tool ID ? - 2 replies
This little rule belonged to my great grandfather (1857-1952), who I can barely recall ( I’m 72). I have had it since I was a kid but have never understood its function. The old timers produced tools for specific uses and I am sure this had one. Anyone have any idea of the name and use? http://i1326.photobucket.com/albums/u654/crm...

removing wedged tenons - 1 reply
I’m trying to restore an old bench that has been on an open porch for about 40 years. The joints in the seat need to be reglued and will require jointing. The major problem is that the 4 main spindles of the back are wedge tenoned into the seat. The minor spindles will pop out easily if I can get the main ones out. I can’t pop ...

Posting help - 9 replies
Have been trying to post a new project for a week. When I try to upload any photo of the project I get a message “bad Request.” Tried uploading a photo of my granddaughter and it worked fine. Used the same Nikon for many others with no issues. Anyone have any idea? BTW, I have never been able to locate a “contact us&...

Craigslist - 265 clamps in Chattanooga - 4 replies
Ran across this tonite, thought someone might be interested, possibly a group purchase (what would anyone in what appears to be a home shop, do with 265 clamps? – I know you “can never have too many, but…...) http://chattanooga.craigslist.org/tls/4305048005.html
