This is a new style of cutting board (at least new to me). I was thinking about 3D designs on the way home from work last week, after Martyn’s Blog and Steve’s Video. So I came up with this. Kind of Sinister, kind of Tumbling block. Once I drew it out, it reminded me of Staggered Stairs (which are kind of cool), and reminded Karen of the Steps on the Row Houses in Baltimore. So that is how the name came about.
I started with 6/4 walnut cut into 10 inch strips. This small length makes ...

Project Description:
I just completed a two part video series on how I made my new table saw sled. I’ve named the new sled the “Super Sled”.
The Super Sled combines two of my best shop jigs!
I love my original crosscut sled, so when the voters at Eagle Lake asked me to make a video about how to make that s...

1. Beginning of the project… getting the 26 oak boards identical and laid out and glued up.
2. After a few hours of carving and shaping, with the star field cut (to scale of the overall dimensions). Still no glue-up at this time… Used my angle grinder with King Arthur and Arbortech wheels…
3. Used clear stain with dye added… took a few coats to get what I was wanting but it turned out well.
4. Glue up completed nothing left but the field of stars and a fin...

I recently uploaded pictures of a cutting board (http://lumberjocks.com/projects/30543) and several fellow LJs asked me to show how it was put together. Subsequently, Patron quickly deduced the process and wrote a nice blog showing the step by step process for how to achieve the pattern. I encourage anyone who is interested to take a look because he has some nice pictures outlining the process. http://lumberjocks.com/patron/blog/15074. I thought I would add a short amendment to his blog de...

For those of you who asked me for a tutorial on how to make the zig zag legless vegetable death table (cutting board), here is my best shot. I am far too impatient to take photos when I work, so I decided to illustrate the process using some good old Adobe PhotoShop. I hope you find this useful and informative.
I will outline the process in 10 steps below. I have assumed that when viewing these steps that basic woodworking skills are familiar to you. If you have questions, or run into snag...

The quick and dirty instructions on how to make a zig-zag pattern cutting board.
Click on the pictures to see a full size image.
Choose a couple different types of hardwood. The more colors the better. Below is cherry, maple and walnut. Rip strips of wood any width so the total with is about 12”. This is the width that will fit through my planer. The beauty of this is that none of the widths have to be the same. The board shown below is made of scrape wood. If you only have shor...
