Part 2: getting started with the getting started part.
I made a big move last week and started the kitchen re-model. Well, more accurately, I started the prep for the re-model. You see, there is this load bearing wall running right through the middle of the proposed new kitchen/dining/gathering room. It supports the ceiling joists for this 23 foot by 24 foot space. It also supports half of the roof rafters at mid span. As near as I can figure it this amounts to about 10,000 pounds with a full snow and ice load for our area.
