Craig's Workshop

Well, my workshop used to be the patio under my deck. Now, I’ve moved in to our Shed! Not quite the best workshop in the world, but it is a place I can call “home” (at least for now).

We moved into our house about 7 years ago now, and I noticed we had a huge shed when we first moved in (10’ x 16’). I never thought it would be a workshop, but with some organization (built some shelves, hung the bikes, moved stuff around a little), I was able to clear a 8’ x 14’ space. After the shed was organized, I realized how hot it was in the shed, and noticed all steel items in the shed had rust on them. As it turned out the shed had no ridge or gable vents. A trip to the local big box store, and a couple vents later, I now have a gable vent at each end and I also installed one down low where the gas is stored…

Now there is good air flow! Next on the list was where to store the tools. I built a rolling tool cabinet with locking casters and two lockable doors. I figured a thief would have to get into the locked shed then through a locked cabinet to get to the power tools. I hope that is enough deterrent to keep people out…

Oh yeah, I also hung 2×3’s in the ceiling for wood storage (something I remember my Granddad did in his garage).

With all of this complete now, I’m about to inherit a combination table saw / jointer that is probably 60 years old, but still works. It was my Grandfathers, and it’s been living in my Dad’s garage since as far back as I can remember (I used to use it as a kid). Once I get it and get in the shed look for a post about what I know about it.
