I love these….ever since seeing the work by Lincoln Seitzman (then seeing an article on him in the AAW Journal)....they are definitely on my list of items to experiment with….You did a great job on this one…very realistic….I was thinking about trying one with a woodburner….instead of ink….but will have to get my burner fixed first….
Hmmm…great Illusion then!.....This is a lathe turned platter out of cherry wood (Using Tom's description above). The plate is then marked with ink and paint to make it look like it is a woven basket….It is really all in the markings you make…..if you do them right…the item does not look like it is wood but woven….An Artist named Lincoln Seitzman is more or less the master of these and some of his work is so good you would absolutely swear it is a basket not a woodturning….
Reggiek, thank you, but maybe I didn't explain it enough. True it is a turned wooden plate then beads are turned in two directions, around and across to give the illusion of a weaving, the paint is only decorative.
Jim, I am in the process of making another and I will photograph the process, it will probably be several weeks till it is finished. I will then post it, take a look when I do, I hope to clarify the project. Thanks Tom.
