Have you heard of the "Big Gulps"? Well put one in the bottom of a router table and it really sucks … BIG TIME. This is your standard "Woodpecker" router table that I put some built-ins into. You know drawers, walls, and a dust collection system that really sucks . The "big gulp" fits into an 1/8" groove on the sides, back, and the door. The chips go nowhere but down.

looks like a great system. I hope that you have the cfm to really keep it clean under there. I am thinking of doing something similar to mine.

MOTTHUNTER … nothing but net ….. It's all down hill inside and 1100 CFM doing the sucking. Do you LJs know how hard it is to keep this clean from here?

Looks great Odie. I'd like a second Router Table because the one beside the table saw requires that I reset the fence for table-saw and router operations.

Now my big question:
Have you seen anything that discusses where the router bit should be in relation to the front/side of the table. I've often thought that I'd like to have more table to the left of the router bit and more table in front of the router bit. For suporting longer stile and rails. On yours you look to have maybe 18" to the right of the router bit to the Incra Positioning fixture. And maybe 12 to the left.

Whats the best to have?? I don't want a 4 X 8 Sheet of ply with the router bit in the middle. What's your feeling on this?

looks like a great job ! Is the router bit hole in the top the only opening in the table ?

Ok, Buddy.... You've almost got me fooled into believing that you have this "whole woodworking thing" figured out… nice try. (LOL)

If that router hole is the only opening, at 1100CFM, you probably wouldn't need a feather board to hold the stock to the table…. and you'd probably lose the buttons off your shirt, too.

ROFLMAF SteveKorz, those were my thoughts too, how the heck would you be able to slide anything past the router bit without a hydraulic assisted push stick.

But then Odie may just suck enough to compensate for the excessive table downdraft. That would negate any need for additional air circulation in the shop. Gives a whole new meaning to 'dust devil' (and he thinks he can fool us with that halo).

Cool, Odie! That's a lot of suck. Consider putting a slot thought the table on the "outfeed" side of the bit just beyond the router plate. No matter how much CFMs you've got the bit will still throw chips that direction during certain cuts like dovetails. That way they'll just go right down the slot.

I love the "Big Gulp" idea, I've never seen it done on a router table. I'm sure you'll see clones.

Odie, have you shared this design with the folks at Dyson? They are pretty inovative, make great vacuums and may want to hire you for their team. By the way, do the windows in your shop bow in when you turn on your vac system?

You can't see it, but there a small slider window in the back of the cabinet. This is used to relieve some of the pressure. That's all I have to say about that ….. Sucker, Odie.

PS. the reason for the big gulp is there are no corners for chips and dust to hide.

Ya…1100 CFM? Not only would you need to have a hydraulic push stick but all your clothes and probably your shoes as well would get collected!..I think you might be a little off on your calculations there, Einstein! The minute you switch it on your going to create a vacuum equal to that in outer space….If your really pulling that much air, then nobody sucks as much as you, Odie!
