Project Information

This is my second attempt at a Morris chair detailed in Fine Woodworking. Still in need of upholstery; for which I've a brown leather that matches another piece I've made for our living room. I feel this chair came out heads and tails better than my first Morris chair - a project I first undertook with next to no real woodworking skills to my credit. I think a lot of it comes down to a nice finish and attention to details like edges and through mortises.

Gorgeous! Can't wait to see it with the upholstery, is that quarter-sawn oak?

Looks great, thanks for sharing!

Excellent, excellent Morris chair. Is this the Greg Paolini plan?
Did you laminate or steam bend the armrests?

Great work!

Nice work. I've only made a slant-arm. Morris chairs are addicting though. I'd like to build several more.

Attention to detail? You did it! Nice wood selection too.

Be sure to post some pics when the cushions are on.

Thanks everyone. Bowed arms were stack laminated, being careful to keep the original order off of the piece you cut them from. Disorder will show on the arm fronts. If you nail it you won't even see the laminates! And yes, it is the Greg Paolini plan. I left out the side slats.

Hi:
You did a great job. I really liked your idea of cutting the arms pieces out of the same piece of wood. That is on my Fall list of builds for me, and I am looking forward to building the Morris chair. I have one question for you. How thick will your cushion be and what will the distance from the floor to the top of the top cushion? The reason I ask is to see if I need to add any height to the legs.
Thank you.
