Bob: It is interesting, there are a few things I want to build in my life, a guitar, a carousel horse, a violin, a dulcimer, and a wooden gear clock. You have accomplished two of my dreams already. I am quite impressed with the use of the leaves for decoration. I would love to see a closer photo of the leaves. Do you have a close up?. Did you sell this guitar, or keep it? What material is the back, I'm guessing it is Hawaiian Koa?

I'm so happy you joined us here in lumberjocks, your talents are very evident. I don't give out many "tens", not sure I even have before, but this project hit me right.

Thanks,
Mark DeCou www.decoustudio.com

I do remember another "ten" I gave, to the "Various Canes" project by a nice guy from California.

I concur with Mark excellent work, I also have done some pyrography and I designed a couple of electric guitars but I don't play so I only made two foot long mock guitars to hang on the wall. I didn't want to figure out all of the routing, bridge work, frets, & truss rod without being able to test it and enjoy playing it. So basically I cheated and only one of them is completed the other one is close. But anyway did you relief carve the leafs also or just use the burning tool? And my guess for the back of the guitar is Bubinga? Welcome to LumberJocks Bob!

Hi Bob! As a guitar lover and builder, please accept my congratulation! This is a wonderful job! As a matter of fact, the finishing and decoration in instruments building is a critical part of whole process and, no doubt, the most time and talent expensive. Regards.

I love the looks & beauty of your instrument. The leaf arrangement is great. Nothing does it better than nature.

Bob, what beautiful work, I love the leaves as well, what a nice job looks like a 10 to me. I looked up dulcimer wondering if anyone had build one and found this thread. Mark I hope you get to build the dulcimer, sure would love to see that.

Just now seeing this. GORGEOUS-lookes like tooled leather
(the one material I like the look and feel of ALMOST as much as I do wood).
$400??? that is VERY reasonable for a custom instruiment.
Now if my playing skills just justified the investment.
