Project Information

I thought I had shared this one when I finished it, but I guess not…

This hollow vessel is roughly 6"x6" made of pine and has a gloss poly finish with a scar feature.

This piece was designed to show that many of us live with scars, be they physical or emotional, and they are what shape us into who we've become. I used this piece as a means to capture some of my scars into something worth showing off. I hope you like it.

and all comments good, bad or otherwise are always appreciated.

Great Job Darryl…
Scars can be ugly, but when all is said and done, they are symbols of healing…
Glad to see you getting some time back in the shop my Friend…

Lovely job Darryl, you know we all carry the "scars of life" in some form or other, it's how we heal is the most important thing, go well :)))

This is a very nice looking vessel. I have never thought about turning pine but the looks of this piece has inspired me to give pine more concideration….. Nice job.

I like it, as you used pine & the rows don't line up perfectly..and it has scars…sounds like most of us.

Darryl - I have not been the least bit interested in turning bowls, EVER, until I saw this one. Heck, I have a lathe but haven't used it to do anyting but play around a bit… But now I'm intensely curious how you did this 'segmented' thing… Any insight?

It's inspirational. Really.

That's a beauty, love the symbolism too. I have plenty of scar tissue and can relate.

wow! thanks everyone for the kind words, it really means a lot coming from the talented group we have here!

Smitty_Cabinetshop: the trick to segmented turning is to have an accurate and flexible tablesaw sled. I spend much more time prepping, cutting and gluing stock than I do turning the piece!
