Project Information

This is a wooden vase I made more than 10 years ago out of many kinds of small pieces I had been collecting all the time. I was Inspired by a real stone wall in a near by park where I lived. These wooden pieces are glued around thin skeleton made of many 6mm wide plywood rings glued on the top of each other in the shape of the vase but smaller. I had to concave each piece to make it suitable for gluing one by one and raw by row. I did that leaving few millimetres gap between them and filled it with mixture of saw dust and PVA to look like CEMENT and normalize a real stone wall appearance. Except the skeleton, it is built of more than 500 STONES and stands 900mm tall. YES, it took very long (few months), but in the end, it gave me full satisfaction.

Brilliant vase Sam, you certainly got the stone and cement wall effect. You must have a lot of patience.

Another very good use for all those little bits I hate to throw away. Clever idea how you assembled the whole thing. I especially like the unevenness of the rings, or the fact that there are really no specific rings.

I believe I've read from you or someone else about the plywood skeleton undernearth, but I can't quite envision it. Would you happen to have any pics of that part of the process? Thanks.

Nicely done - I've seen symmetric turnings like this before but I've gotta say I really like the finished product here. Well done.

Hi Sam, you are very creative ….. am I correct in saying that no two pieces are the same size?

Cher, they are neither the same size nor the sam shape, like stone wall.
Thank you all for your comments.
