New CNC Wood Caver for OregonBurls.com

We have just invested in a Legacy Artisan 5 axis Milling Machine. Still learning learning it but it is fairly easy.

The working deck is 72" x 24" and has the ability to turn tapered spindles.
It is fun!

Greg, that is an awesome machine…that will add another great component to your inventory….can't wait to see some of the results as you get more acquainted with the machine - I would love to see some carved reliefs on some hollow vessels…would be an interesting addition to a turner's arsenal…

I will just guess that i will take a while to have that machine pay for itself….I've looked at building my own cnc carving machine (there are tons of web pages)...but the software has to be good also or else the machine itself would only make a good boat anchor.

The only bad thing and it is not Legacy's fault. I went against their advice and purchased Bobcad software.
The salesmen said lots of things and it sounded like the best for the money. Wrong! not user friendly. On top of that they have a 60 day return policy. Wrong again. it is not satifaction garantee and you can only return it if it does not do what they say it will do. so there is no return policy. It is hard when companies do not have integrety. My fault is I did not get the return policy until after I paid for the program. Ug!

But I love The Artisan!

Greg,

Congrats on the CNC and sorry about your experience with BobCAD/CAM.

I stopped upgrading BCC after V23 when it went fully to 3D. I still use V21 exclusively. BCC products are really geared to metal machining and making precision items like dies and molds. The V21 CAD has served me well and the CAM side is usable. Many of the lower priced CNC software packages don't include a good CAD package.

For signs and novelty items, I would suggest Vectric Cut-2D. At $149 it is a bargain.

Steve.
