Project Information

Well, the project is completed and delivered… a bitter-sweet feeling. Been working on this thing, drawing for about six weeks and sawing since the middle of February, and have become a little attached to it but also glad it's over and gone to a very happy recipient. Oh that warm fuzzy feeling. She was in awe when she saw it. She said she had never seen such a big dollhouse. Guess she's got something to talk about at school tomorrow!

and me… I got a garage to clean up and a motorcycle I've been neglecting.

I haven't totaled up the receipts yet but I figure I have about $350 in it including "shop supplies."

Below are individual pictures throughout the house. Hope you all enjoy them.

side porch looking from the back of the house towards the corner

front porch looking from the corner towards the front door

the front step textured and stained to look like flagstone. worked out quite well using joint compound.

looking in through front door

a few pictures of the living room. notice the picture of grandma and grandpa over the fireplace. my grand daughter thought that was awesome.

a few pictures of the dining room

a few pictures of kitchen. the doors under counter don't really open.

arched doorway between kitchen and dining room

stairs - lower half

stair landing

stairs - upper half

picture showing detail under stairs

a few pictures of the rooms upstairs with wall to wall carpeting

looking out bedroom door to upper deck

upper deck looking across side from bedroom door towards corner

upper deck looking across front from corner

my signature placed on the back side of the roof

house is "on site" and ready for the unveiling. grand daughter has been confined to a back bedroom while it was brought in and set up.

"WHOA!!!" was the first word out of her mouth. made me proud to be the designer/builder.

taking it all in

one VERY happy camper. (I think I'm her favorite grandpa)

Now… I've got seven other grand kids to build something for. I guess I'll be busy for a while!

WOW! That's a great house, let alone a doll house. I bet there isn't even a contest for #1 Grandpa, you blew that right out of the water. Amazing.

That is the most lucky girl on the planet to have a grandfather like you.
What a wonderful dollhouse!
Such fine details all over.
I'm really impressed.
And if it makes a difference I'm a architect and has build tons of model houses in my time.
Way to go!
Best thoughts,

thanks guy. means a lot coming from fellow woodworkers, especially architects. her mother and biological father are divorced and my son is her step dad so she has 3 grandfathers and i have no doubt i'm her favorite. at least for the time being. lol
I forgot to mention the dimensions of this thing. 48" wide, 30" deep plus 5" more for bay window, and just over 40" tall to the roof peak. was originally going to be over 50" tall but time constraints cancelled second flight of stairs and a full height attic. it is built in three sections so it can fit through internal doors.

thanks again!

Roger - very impressive. As mentioned above, your granddaughter is very fortunate to have a loving grandfather such as you. Your attention to detail is awesome. It would be difficult to discern whether these are pictures of a house or a doll-house. Fantastic.

Only one thing, though. I don't think your stairs would meet IRC or OSHA standards. Knowing Barbie and her friends, she might be inclined to sue the builder of the house!!

BillyJ… lol on the stairs. If she were an only child I would have installed railings on the stairs but with 5 younger siblings they wouldn't have lasted long. I would have also installed muttins in the windows and doors if she were alone. had to make it "kid proof."

thanks for the feedback

No crown molding to go with the baseboards? Hahaha. That is just really amazing. Those close-up interior pics really blew me away, especially the hardwood floors and wainscoting. I better not show it to my daughter, or she might be upset that she only has the lame one that I built for her over a weekend a while back.
