Project Information

Simple box in red oak. I used some trim from HD for the top and bottom and added some 1/2" wooden peg feet to it. Made this for my sister and engraved her initials in the top. I used inkjet iron-on paper to get the monogram onto the wood and then carved it out with a dremel (used this method on my 'Penguin Engraved Jewelry Box' as well. I didn't used hinges but ripped some thin strips that I set inside the lip of the top, these nest into the box nice and snug.

Finished with amber shellac and dark walnut stain and finally polished with finishing wax.

Pretty nice. I've tried the engraving with a Dremmel and apparently, my hand is quite steady enough. Yours looks good.

That's one of those boxes that someone will pick up in one of your nieces and nephews homes in 40 years, handle it a bit, admire it, and put it down. It looks like it will be around for awhile and has some classic detail. Engrave her initials on it and she will never lose track of it.
