Project Information

This is my first attempt at a ladle. I started out with a section of a 4×4 cedar post and carved out the rough shape with the bandsaw. The bowl area was chiseled out and the final shaping was done on the spindle sander. Lots of hand sanding was still required afterwards to get to the final finish! Overall I am very happy with the result. The last coat of Tung oil is drying on it now. Does anyone know if this will be sufficient to seal the ladle? Or should I look at applying something more? The ladle will be frequently dipped in the water bucket in the sauna afterall, but never left in it, of course! Thanks for looking!

Stan ~ I can't advise you about the finish being 'sufficient' or not…. but I can tell you that you sculpted a really nice ladle. On the side view I really like the smooth curves you managed. Looks stout and comfortable to hold.
