Project Information

Working in a small shop necessitates space conservation and tooling mobility. Since acquiring a lathe last July, the shop was adjusted to accommodate the machine along with an array of accessories. A solution to the accumulation of lathe tools required some thought. How to provide ease of use while turning and quick-out of the way- stowage. The lathe easel seemed to be a workable answer. The lower rack pivots allowing easy tool access. The loaded easel is quite stable, performs it function well and folds-up flat against the wall when not needed.

Very interesting, with obvious advantages. And hey! it's decorative! And that's kinda what turning is aobut. The tilting 'handy shelf' is inspired! Looking at your work I see nice things; order with freedom to think outside the round box and great detail. Thanks for sharing.

I like it. I too have more tools than places to put them within easy reach of my lathe. Where do you position the easel while turning?
The finial is a nice touch.
The forth horizontal tool from the bottom caught my attention. It looks like an offset hollowing gouge, but it has a flat looking shank next to the handle. Am I seeing it correctly?

You win! That's the best turning tool rack I've seen, and I thought mine was the best.

Thanks for all your kind words. This tool rack was a much needed addition to the turning section of the shop.

Jeepturner,
This is my turning area, I recently built the cabinet under the ways for additional storage. The red thing at the end of the lower bed extension is a T-Rex tool caddy that active tools are placed during a project.
