Project Information

for my mama!! -'cause i am the light of her life!!-ha ha! -no, really, because she has always shown me there is light in the darkness.
it just was there in the cherry when i went to mess with it because it was raining and i could not get out with the chainsaw to get more pieces for another project….and so i thought i would free it on time to give it to my mom because it reminded me of her. The branch abscess in the belly made a perfect spot to make it useful as a nightlight!
We think the base is box elder or ash -it was winter.

Wood is amazing stuff I think this piece is inspired Christine, although I have one concern about heat from the bulb so close to wood?? it's lovely, it looks like Mother Earth pouring out life into a stream. Happy Mothers day to all Mothers everywhere. I miss mine.

Leonard Cohen sings, "There is a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in." Seems to fit this carving just perfectly. Was it not for Mother's Day, this piece could also be seen as a poignant expression of abortion or miscarriage. I like Trevor's interpretation of Mother Earth pouring forth life.

Great way of letting the wood speak to you, you really are able to listen and let wood show itself off.
Thank you for sharing.

-yeah, i was worried about that too, tdv… I think it needs the lowest wattage definitely
I kept the piece that fell out between the left shoulder and belly, but decided not to gle it back because i thought it may help with venting the heat.

Awesome work Christine. Another great project. I'm sure your mother will love it. Another reminder of how you light up her world.

I think if you would use a small LED light you would be safe, they don't generate much heat at all.
Very unique and interesting carving. Wish I had some talent.

How does a girl from Nashville come up with such abstract art? Your talent is growing and growing my friend!

Dang! Kelly!! MEMPHIS, MEMPHIS -ELVIS & all! -This place is just as foreign to you as your area is to me, isn't it!
-At least i finally convinced you that i am not in Texas!
-and, no, my talent doesn't grow; i just buy more tools and learn how to use them more effectively. It is summer again, and soon i will probably be back to nice, big, unrefined, clunky, 120 grit on the grinder-projects!

I am such a stooge! Why can't I remember Memphis? We talk all the time and I still get it mixed up LOLOL And YES YOUR TALENT IS GROWING! It's okay to accept a compliment Christine, we won't think less of you. ;) And BTW what new tool did you get that enables you to carve the human body??? Duh!

A fine piece, from something that most would view as mer firewood !
I like it.
I envy you living in an area that has such a diversity of wood.
