Project Information
I've wanted to combine minerals with wood in some manner for several years and finally decided the time was right. I searched online and found plans for a duplicator that used a trim router. The web site said the total cost of the project should be under $200, $500 latter I had my duplicator!
I make a mold in plaster of paris and then cut the shape of the mineral, copper in this case, into the lid of the box. I glue the mineral in place after the lid has been sized and finished. These are the first two boxes I have attempted and they turned out OK but I hope to do better in the future.
The third picture also shows a brand I had made to burn into some of my work. I wanted a tree with my name in-bedded and I think the artist did a great job. If anyone else is interested I will be glad to forward his name and email info. I paid $110 total for the brand. He did ten or so sketches, I picked my favorites and he then did another 10 or so. The final two were picked and he again did several versions and I picked the one I liked. I also have a jpeg and a gif file of the brand to use on business cards or whatever else I want.
