Project Information

Birthday present for a fellow fisherman here in Alaska. When you go dipnetting for red salmon you may fillet 50 fish a day so a big sharp knife is nice to have. Blade is ready made, 440C. Handle is Diamond Wood american oak pattern. Sheath is red oak with a leather wrap for the belt loop. Shown with a ruler for scale, the blade is 10". Finished with 5 coats of tung oil. Wood sheaths are great and easy to make; if there is interest I'll put together a tutorial on how to knock one out in an afternoon. This one was kept simple as it is a heavy use knife and less show piece that some of my others.

nice knife … "put together a tutorial" ... you will never be sorry. I'd like to see how you do it. I've got a couple knife blanks myself.

He'll love that. Always better with a hand made gift. Beautiful still and cool sheath…..............

Side note: I think I have that same coffee table, judging by the veneer pattern.

Oh…and nice knife. I too would be interested in how to make a sheath.

I have not put a tutorial together, but will after mountain goat season in mid Sept. Home remodel has kept me away from here but I'm slowly getting back to woodworking.
