It's hard. It can dull a knife in a hurry. I have sold a few of these at work. big hit with the hunters. I am in the process of making desk top holders with deer horn. I have one on this site. It was my first one.
i have turned a few on my lathe…i think the hardest part is drilling the hole throught the antler, actually getting a chunk large enough that doesn't twist is another problem. I found it quite amazing of the colors inside the antler-i found purples and greens, faint but distinguishable. did you put a finish on it? if so, how did you finish it?
I used a sanding sealer and Deft clear laqer. A lot of people use CA glue, but I can't seem to get that procedure down. I have used laqer on all my pens with no problems so far. It does take a few to dry but not bad. Thanks for the post. Don.
