Project Information
This is another in my flying saucer hollow form series. It's walnut with spalted maple. It's approximately 6.5" in diameter and 1.75" tall. David Ellsworth showed us some forms like this he had made early in his career during a class last year. I really liked it so I thought I'd give it a go. I simply cut a diagonal wedge off of a walnut turning block and jointed the face. Then I glued a spated maple board on the diagonal face. I wanted the hole to be just inside the spalted maple, but I think I cut it too close. It's quite a challenge to hollow into the intersection of the top and sides since the top is quite shallow. Finished with 3 coats of Waterlox Original.
