Project Information

Hello All,

Many first are associated with this project, so I find it apropos that it be my first post. I discovered this forum about a year ago and have hidden in the shadows gathering knowledge from all you kind folks.

A bit of background:

A few years ago, the worst thing that could happen to me did…my parents bought me a table saw as a housewarming gift. After building garage type stuff, workbench, laundry center, shelving…I was bitten by the woodworking bug. And since I'm single, with no wife and no kids objecting to my tool addiction, I soon added a jointer, a band saw, a planer and a drill press. So, feeling bad that my parents had yet to receive a return on their investment, I built my mom this dressing table/vanity, to replace the one that was destroyed during the remodel of their bathroom.

Thanks to you kind folks, I got a ton of tips and used them all. I made many mistakes, lotsa "opps" and "son-of-a's" flew, but overall the project came out pretty nice. But most important, Mom really likes it.

The side cases were built with cherry veneered plywood, faced framed with solid cherry. The drawers and center drawer case were built with pre-finished birch plywood. The drawer fronts are solid cherry, with the wide fronts being glue-ups. The top was a left over granite slab from the bathroom remodel. The finish is General Finishes vintage maple gel stain, toped with three coats of arm-r-seal.

The first for me include experiences with a pocket hole jig, jointer, planer, and an HVLP sprayer. I relied heavily on the tips and info I received from the forum so any comments will be greatly appreciated. And I apologize for the crappy final image pic. After remembering to use my good camera during the building, I forgot to bring it at install, and had to use my crappy phone.

Thanks for looking.

Omar

Looks good. If you don't mind me asking, how did you attach the middle drawer cabinet to the two side cabinets? Is it resting on cleat or something? Also, is the middle drawer cabinet attached to the top? Thanks
