Project Information

This is the year that I am finally going to use up my off cuts! This bench is mahogany, koa and maple with koa legs. I used pieces that were 1 3/4" alternating with 1 3/8" to give a ripple effect ( very comfortable as well). I glued them together in groups of 4 to make sure I had good clamping pressure. Once all the pieces were glued together, I ran the seat through my drum sander to get the bottom level. Next I cut the ends on the bandsaw and used my grinder to round over the edge, then I added the legs and the finish. I've got three more benches in the works and some new ideas for using up all the special wood that I couldn't part with….........

Hey Grizzman,

True I do have quite a few pieces in my house. Funny thing is that I am dreaming these days of adding another story just to make space for more projects!!!!!!! So far my husband has denied that request. Why?

cathyb, a nicely configured original design!

Do you have any more photos that are taken from the side to better show the depth of the top?

I like your wood combination, as well as the order in which you arranged the boards. Also like the undulating top.

Hi Jonathan,

I just added the side shot. Without using a grinder to add that soft edge would have been tricky. It was fun to make bench and I sold it within a week. Another great thing about using multiple woods is that it will go with just about any other wood in the house. The next one is walnut, koa, cherry with a completely different leg design. It should be finished this week…......

Very cool! Thanks for adding the additional photo. Not at all surprised that it sold right away.

I'm looking forward to seeing the next one!

Nice bench Cathy and what better way to use those cut-offs. As usual, your design and work are both top.
