Project Information

Hey guys, so I have now been here in Afghanistan for about 3 months. I was tasked (because of my construction history and because someone showed my boss my page here on LJ) with the position of Brigade R&U (repair and upgrade). so they gave me very little tools, and really no place to work, so this is what we did. we started with a container and a screened porch or sorts. we closed in the porch, added an 8×8 and an 12×12 addition so we would have a place to secure tools and projects.

As part of our duties we are charged with remodeling/fixing of living quarters and office areas; building furniture; and new construction projects.

the last pic is the view from my shop.

What is that old saying? We have been asked to do so much with so little for so long, that they now think we should be able to make anything out of nothing. Not saying it is true, but I want to thank you and all the servicepeople for your service. And as I see that your primary purpose is to advance the combat readiness
of 101st Airborne Division, I am sure that all of your work is greatly appreciated. Thank you for sharing and
I will be saying a few prayers for your safe return.

Kudos to you, sir. I've shipped books to soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq as part of Operation Paperback. Is there anything like that for woodworkers to donate equipment? Or would the shipping be too costly?

First, I want to thank you for serving our country. We are endebted to you and those that serve with you. Second, the mountains in the background are stunning. We don't have those kinds of mountains in Ohio.
Finally, it looks like you are doing well with what you have been given. I'm sure that many will be blessed because of your talent. Thank you for sharing.

Necessity is always the mother of invention. War zones especially. It goes to show that woodworking is always serious business along with being one of the finest hobbies in the world (IMHO). You should be doubly thanked….for service to country…and for service to brother soldier…..I am sure lots of your brothers in arms are thanking you for your work in making their jobs a bit more easier to do….keep up the great work…and come home safely.
