Project Information
I'm posting this project to compliment Dicks forum on his log tenon maker. I made this using a Logman brand tenon jig on the vertical logs. The horizonal logs I attached using a carefully scribed butt joint and a 2- 12 inch screws covered with square plugs. I used my 4 1/2 inch Dewalt grinder with chainsaw stlye cutter to rough scribe and my 4 inch makita grinder with a sanding pad to finish scribe the log ends. I did not want to see the tenon on these major joints. I was happy with this jig because it fit my buget. Now I can do log furniture and add it to my repertoire. It was finished with a commercial precatalized lacquer and matching sealer. The hardest part of the project was finding a log with a large knot in it as per costomer request. They don't grow that way in my backyard. Ours are all nice and straight. I did find one about a mile from the road and had to make three trips to get it. One to find it. One with the chainsaw to cut it. One to drag the log back to camp. All in the beautiful Sawtooth Mountains. One of my harder days at work.
