So why have I not been blogging much lately?

Real simple, I have had very little shop time, and what shop time I have had, has had very little to do with woodworking…

Aside from the projects you all know about, or I think you do because you read my blog… I have also been decking my attic, packing still more insulation in there, replacing a busted AC drain pan / line, replacing sheet rock, texturing etc…

Just this past weekend I have…

#1. Floated, and taped the closet ceiling in the guest bath, textured and painted half of it (long story why half / half. More on that later.)
#2. Moved nursery stuff into the attic for the time being so guest room can be, well… a guest room…
#3. Did the Christmas decorating outside. Inside is a whole other story…
#4. Set up the full bed in the guest room… I need to get sheets and pillows still. And Mom will be here a week from today!
#5. Finished caulking the bathroom door trim. I need to add 1 last piece of trim, then caulk that, final sand, then prime the trim and the wall… Then paint. Did I mention my Mom is coming and my wife is having a conniption fit?
#6. Toted up and moved to the attic all of LOML's craft stuff that has been hanging out in the guest room…

I have a SHORT budget this year due to the whole economy, and LOML not being able to find a job, a LOT of home repair / replacement stuff that needs to get done (the carpet is trashed etc…) and a wife that is nervous as all get out about her mother in law seeing the house like this… Mind you, My mom stayed with me in the house when it was a Bachelor pad, and remembers the work that needed to be done. She will fully understand that the house has been about 50% remodeled in 3 years, on 1 income…

I love my wife to death, but it's times like this that make me want to get the holidays over with so I can get rid of all this STRESS!

The stress of the holiday season is indeed real.

My stress has dropped to a tenth of what it used to be. First, Sherie and I trade links and tell each other what to buy. Then Sherie, who works about one day a week now, instead of 60 hours per week, which she did for 7 years straight (and had done before in another 7 year stint) does all the other Christmas shopping. We are in good shape for guests, but only after a lot of money expended. We will be going out to Sherie's mother's house for Christmas, so no big meal to prepare, etc. We did Thanksgiving for the extended family, however.

We have pretty much eliminated the holiday madness, but only recently. See, it only took me about 50 years to figure it out, with perhaps 20 years of age being the point where the holidays became an issue. So it does end. Just take your age, subtract it from 70, and you will know how many years of holiday madness are left….......(-:

I have not been blogging since I am in a protracted shop project, but when I am finished, there will be a lot of blog fodder (the project is the dust control/splitter-guard scenario with my TS). My left wrist went on strike and complained a lot last night, I may have to curtail shop activities a little, although the real culprit was a combination of overusage at work and at home. And that is with my emphasis on power tools rather than hand tools. Like I have said before, power tools will always be my focus due to physical limitations.

We always get overly concerned about what guests see and expect, and it sounds like you are the same. It is a cultural disease, endemic, with no cure in sight…...........

May the force be with you….......we need a lot of force around Christmas…............

Well, last night the ceiling in the guest room got completed. Texture, primed, and painted. Tonight I work my way down the walls. The light beige / bone white paint in this closet is being done away with, and I am using Pure white paint. There is no lighting in this closet, and so LOML and I decided that we needed to maximize what light came into the closet from the room, which means bright white paint…

I also ran through setting up and testing the new 12" compound sliding miter saw. I think it will be a good addition to the shop, except that my workbench needs to be HEAVILY modified to turn it in to a miter saw station deep enough to handle the slider. This means that basically, I need to tear the existing bench down to nothing, and rebuild it from the ground up… So it is back to Sketchup to get the dust collection figured in…

My wife is a Christmas freak, she decorates every room in the house (including lights in the bathroom). But it's what makes her happy, so be it. Christmas day has always been at our house until my granddaughter Lily appeared, now we go to my daughters so Lily can wake up at home. Christmas to us is wherever the family is at, and we don't care how clean and organized the homes are as long as we are together.

Well, I'm pretty easy going and I love the holidays, but the women folk can get into the whole thing a little too much, IMHO. This year both my grown daughters are home for about 3 months so, boy howdy, it's been one hoot after another. Sometimes it get's a little too thick for me so I just head out to the shop or the patio and either work or just set a spell. So far as getting stressed over the holidays I just ain't going to do that. I get enough of that at the plant. :)
