Project Information

I designed and crafted this alder and aluminum Pot and Pan Rack for my DIL. She has a small kitchen and was very unhappy with her lack of storage space. I told her that she needed to get her pots and pans out of the cabinets and the result of that conversation is this piece. It hangs over a small counter top extension. Room was limited by the proximity of the back door, but it works pretty well.

This is a mixed media piece made with 1/2" square aluminum tubing vertically supporting the stretched octagonal rack. Rhe tubes are captured in mating dadoes and pinned with brass rod for strength. The upper elements are screwed to ceiling joists and plugged with removable maple plugs.

The horizontal octagon is biscuit jointed at the miters and screwed and plugged to the horizontal parts of the supporting structure.

I hand bent brass welding rod hooks for hangers.

I like it the wife wanted one so I welded one out of steel. Coppered it and supported it thru to the joists in the attic it can hold couple hundred pounds.

I hung it in the garage when I finished it and put about 200 lbs on it for 2 weeks. We have a lot of cast iron.

Wife's happy. Me happy.

Very cool. I like it. It makes the pots and pans so handy and it is a nice looking wood addition to the kitchen.

Thanks for sharing!!!!!!!!

hi covenant,

since this one is positioned over a counter top extension, headroom wasn't a huge consideration, but you can hit your head if your over about 5'10" and walk very close -lol-

Headroom has been an issue on other racks I have made in the past. In fact the one in my house, bolted to an overhead beam, lies right across the pathway to our family room, so my taller friends have learned to duck.

Hey Mike,

sounds like you build 'em heck for stout…..

thanks everyone for the comments
